You can set it up a few ways. I have it so the channel members are white and whoever is speaking turns blue.
I have not used it in BF4 since it is not on the supported games list yet. It is for other BF titles.
I recently reinstalled it to use with Arma3 and it works fine but it will not overlay correctly for me in BF4 yet.
There are a lot of things that come with it that I would not use but others may find some of it useful. It would be nice if you could pick and choose the elements.
As a straight up TS3 overlay for a supported game it works well.
Yea, bummer that it doesn't work in BF4. I have it too and it's seems like a pretty cool plugin. The overlay doesn't stay onscreen/in front when BF4 is open. When you minimize BF4 or Alt Tab out, it's there behind everything.
I used to have the regular Teamspeak Overlay plugin and it was handy. I think it started giving me trouble or they stopped updating it or something. I don't remember. I never reinstalled it when I reinstalled Windows after I rebuilt my computer a couple months ago. Maybe I'll try it again.

I just installed Project K, and it didn't even work, or the program did nothing. Only allowed me to white-list BF4, but still never saw any kind of configuration or whatever.
After installing Project K restart BF4, it should show a prompt on the screen with info on how to enable.(Alt-Shift-page down if I remember correctly) Its a pain to get setup and there are limited instructions but appears to work once setup.
