    The TG IHS, [TG-UN]

    I am contemplating forming a new TG In-House Unit. Not that one more is needed, but simply because I have come to terms with the fact that I will probably be playing online FPS military games until I am either physically or mentally incapable and such a IHS is an extension of a particular style and philosophy of play that I prefer. It also will provide an opportunity to further my ongoing auto-ethnographic study in online gaming.

    Here is the general outline of my proposed IHS.

    Modelled loosely on the United Nations Peace Keeping forces (Which my father was a member of), and designed in the spirit of the old TG IHS, the 1st-MIP.

    This IHS would be non-exclusive. In the spirit of the UN, members would not be required to drop their current affiliation with an IHS. One could be a member of an existing IHS and also a member of TG-UN.

    The general goal of the IHS would be to develop expertise in communication, tactics, and teamwork. Those of you that have followed my postings on related subjects, or joined my squad when I am in full-on SL mode, have an idea what I am trying to achieve.

    TG-UN would explore a different way of playing the game(s), one that lies somewhere between reality simulation and pure running and gunning.

    The new TG-UN would provide a formal structure for the manifestation of a particular approach to teamplay, one which would provide participants with another way to experience online gaming that builds on the foundation of TG's mature gaming environment.

    I will continue to flesh-out the concept in this thread. In the meantime, comments are welcome.

    One would still have to be a SM to join, correct?? Or a member of the Irregs.

      A good question. I need to think more about the pros and cons of required SM.

        SM requirement is not an option for TG IHSs except the Irrs.

          Allow me to restate this to ensure I understand. My proposed IHS cannot require SM status as a prerequisite for membership in the IHS.

            Backwards. The only IHS that has the SM exemption is the Irregs. Your proposed IHS would still have the SM requirement.

              I think you have to be a SM to be in an IHS. The Irregs are the exception.

                No. No TG IHS except the Irrs may take members that are not SMs. All other IHSs must require SM status.

                  Users may only participate in one IHS at a time, as per IHS formation guidelines. For example, I'm in the 6th. I cannot also be in the 10th.

                  Now, I'm not sure, but in the old days if you wanted a "non-official IHS style team" as we can call them, asch used to give out private forum access at Tactical Conflict. This allowed for small groups of players to have private forums (like typical IHS') but did not make them a "full" IHS.

                    Thank you. SM status is necessary. So be it.

                        FTW indeed. Acronyms are the plaque of large bureaucracies, particularly the military.

                        TG = Tactical Gamer
                        FPS = First Person Shooter
                        IHS = In-House Squad
                        MIP = Mechanized Infantry Platoon
                        UN = United Nations (although among and large number of Americans, it denotes Satan...)
                        SM = Supporting Member
                        FTW = Fetch the Waiter

                            "What follows is a brief introduction to the Tactical Gamer in house squads. These squads are small factions, not independent of TG, but formed to allow groups to more closely work together to develop tactics, procedures and missions. Able to operate as individual units they are most powerful when called in to represent TG, bringing their own flavor and style into helping the community as a whole.

                            Note - you must be a Supporting Member to be accepted into or to form an in-house squad."

                              Is this definitely the rule? I'm probably mistaken, but I thought I had heard that in the earlier days of TG, IHS's were a lot more open and people bounced back and forth frequently.
