  • Stepping Up to Lead

I have been informally studying virtual modes of leadership here at TG for a few years now and am always on the look out for distinctive and effective styles of leadership.

Last night (or last last night...) Dr. Beat joined the server and, as she often does, informally stepped up and played the role of CO (in so far as that can be done in BC2).

It is always fascinated to observe Dr. Beat's style of leadership. Calm, seeking consensus, asserting a point of view (but never alienating or demeaning), and keenly focused on mission priorities.

Kudos to Dr. Beat for so often stepping up and doing so well at it. Too often, when I witness others doing this (providing team-wide guidance) I see examples of what not to do, how not to lead, how not to inspire team work (and no, I am not going to point anyone out -- that would not be appropriate).

TG is fascinating laboratory for the study of teamwork, skill acquisition, leadership, and communication in virtual environments.

No one should hesitate to step up. We are all ready to follow.

    That is the TG way.

Well thanks E-Male; your praise is truly flattering. It was nice to see and play with you that evening on the server also.

Kudos to E-Male for the post and his observations, and to DrBeat for, well, being DrBeat. She DOES immediately jump into suggestions for offense/defense, etc. Out of the typical din, a voice of reason.

I'm hoping that with the return to true squad-based play in the upcoming BF3, that we will always have at least ONE squad named "LEARNTG" to promote the TG way. Heck, with the timing between BF2 and BF3, I'm betting that we'll more than a few players who have NEVER had the pleasure of playing in squads with an SL, with an actual CO, youngin's that just weren't playing when BF2 was out and popular. Maybe some "LEARNBF3" squads would be in order too.
