Just wanted to point out that this is EA's answer to getting people to buy new games. New games will come with a code that allows the first hand owner to get free DLC. However people who buy second hand games will have to pay, nullifying the savings of the pre-owned game.

Same thing happened for Dragon Age and Mass Effect 2. Some people see it as a blessing for people who buy games to keep. Others see it as EA withholding content only to reuse as fishhook DLC. It really sucks how "DLC" has rapid changed in the last year.

Lame. I thought we would actually be getting extra maps with the DLC. These are maps already built and in the files already. They even have the balls with the second DLC to withhold game modes at launch.

Who buys second-hand PC games? Doesn't seem like that's a very big market to sell DLC to. Or maybe "buys second-hand" really means "downloads illegally"? <shrug>

Actually they are targeting retailers like Gamestop, etc. Earlier this week you could use several promotions to return a game and get something like $45 in store credit, use that to pre-order another game for $5 and get more credit to purchase a new game. Gamestop has saved itself by thriving on returned games. They've been reported to sell second hand games as new too (see: http://www.gamepolitics.com/category/topics/gamestop among other articles). And there are a bunch of people who wait for games to drop in price before buying them for a bargain ($29.99 or less) at these stores, second hand. But the code with the game is already used at that point.

The thing is that their DLC doesn't cost any extra for them because its already developed before the game is released usually (or already budgeted). There's nothing wrong with that, but it means every person who wants to get that extra DLC after buying a second hand game needs to pay up, or wait months until the new game price drops. This also means you separate the second hand game buyers from playing all the stuff the first hand game buyers are playing. It would suck having to drop from a server 20% of the time because of missing maps. On the other hand, DLC is terribly easy to download illegally.

I think I get Squad Rush at launch due to some kind of preorder thing....I can't keep up with all of them. I ordered the Limited Edition, so I get 6 unlocks, from Gamestop means I get the AK-74U at launch instead of after the XM8C, I have 5 Dr. Pepper caps sitting here on my desk for some other shiny thing they're doing. It's rather annoying.

                      thumbs down to DICE
I have paid 100% of my money for the game and should get 100% of it at release
late March unlocking, is for game modes on maps already installed
                      poor show DICE

Better point that thumb at EA. EA is the publisher/marketer with final control over any and all distribution decisions. This is the same funk EA has pushed on Mass Effect 2. I for one am glad EA at least had the good sense to allow distribution over STEAM. It may suck for the second hand purchasers, but retail buyers are still getting it all for free.

so let me get this straight....we get a game with dedicated servers,Amazing environments and graphics, programmable keys, and kick a$$ game play and ppl still whine? Who cares when you get it....it's free and will probably come when the existing maps we are playing are stale!!! never seen anything like this in 2142....oh wait we did...it was an expansion we had to PAY for.
