  • I suck something fierce...

Or I played entirely too much MW2, which I don't think I did. I can't seem to get any points in this game and Specialist looks a long ways away for me. I know what I can do, but sniping doesn't garner a lot of points because usually I just spot and take the off occasional shot. I simply cannot get anything above 1,000 points in a game, is that normal?

By the way, props TG...been playing on your servers with just about every FPS online game!

I think I've gotten over 1k points in a round once. Usually I'm between 400-600 or so, and that's if our team win a round. I'm thinking things are really going to be a grind to rank/gear up.

That's what it is looking like...kind of nice I guess, reminds me a bit of Battlefield 2. Longevity and all that, at least it beats MW2 where I ranked entirely too quickly. I was just curious if it was common to get somewhere around the points I get.

Well.. plenty of the guys your are playing against/with have played 50+ hours of beta and simply have more experience with the game. Give it some time and you will learn the maps and the dynamics in the game.

If you are on the top of the scoreboard, its 2000-8000 a game. That is normal for being the "Ace" player. If you are in the middle, its generally 1500 points. Towards the bottom is <1000. Exp is easiest to earn as a medic because you can heal/res people. The highest I've seen is 18,000 points with only one 5k achievement. So its definitely possible. There are two ways a sniper can gain points quickly (and also be #1. Any class can be on the top of the board). Either you can snipe a lot of people, or you can help your team with objectives. Of course, its usually a mix of both sniping and objectives.

Here are a few pointers as a sniper:

            1. Be aggressive. Standing around waiting for people only means less chances to get a kill for +50. Try to creep while scoped and focus on high traffic areas.
            2. Attack point's and defend them. This is the same as being aggressive. Be there when your team is capping. Be there to defuse/defend the point. And/or snipe those guys off the point.
            3. You don't always have to be sniping. Some maps are great for sniping. Other maps are better for closer ranged engagements. Grab your Thompson, or your shotgun and get in there with your squad.
            4. Kill streaks = extra points. These are called efficiency pins. The more kills in a row, the more they add up. So find a good spot and camp. Don't worry about headshots unless targets are standing still. Move if people start firing on your position.
            5. Objective streaks: Spotting targets nets you points (+20 spot assist), assisting people nets points and assist pins (+20), people respawning on you help you to get tactical achievements which are 5000 exp. Also, getting bronze/silver/gold stars by doing things (simply by using the same weapon to kill X players total) will net you more exp. Savior kills and avenges are double points (+100).
            6. If you are ranking up on Sniper specifically but not having any luck with the sniper rifle, try close quarter combat with C4 to demo the objective. Damaging the objective always gives you points (but I notice that 90% of the objectives are destroyed via arming it, 10% destroying the building itself). Here you should practice using your pistol/shorter ranged weapons which will still give recon specific points.

Other stuff, top player (+200). Top squad (+200). Winner (+200).

I would echo AVS and add that as a medic points are easy to come by from just a squad support perspective. :)

This game gives you loads of points for squad based and team based support, sniping on a hill can work, but fails when all your squad die and have to spawn on you, and have to waste 10 or so seconds to get back into the fight, in a heated battle, 10 seconds getting to a firefight means men and women go down because your squad had to spawn on that hill or some far away place that snipers like to gather.

I have played the BETA, and there were rounds I played were I scored a total score of 11,000+ points, mostly playing as medic, engie or assault, recon is good and has a place, but helping the team out with revives and meds was more of a preference for me.

Cheers mate! Just broke over 2,500 for the first time ever! Solid tips, thanks a ton.

Oh, just as well, I've played sniper in every Battlefield game since 1942 on. I prefer the class, and it is the class I have the most experience playing. Besides, I'm useless at about anything else anyway. XD

                    Re: I suck something fierce...

For the love all that is holy, do the following when you are Recon.

                    1. Press 4
                    2. See that ball? That is the best thing a Recon can do to help the team. Throw it like a nade on the crate you're team is attacking or defending. It sense motion, pops up targets on the minimap.
                    3. Any enemy who gets killed in the range of the sensor gets you 20 points.
                    4. Refill at an ammo box, repeat, more points, help team, good good good.

                      1. Press 3*
                      2. See those binoculars? That is the best way to spot things at a distance with less tunnel vision than the scope. See an entrenched enemy position screwing your squads assault on a point? Hold down your cursor on the spot until the binoculars dissapear and in about 5 seconds there will be Russian confetti raining down on their heads. Then your guys can move in and secure the point.
                      3. Any people or vehicles that get destroyed by the mortar strike simultaneously each add an additional 30 points onto the kill score.
                      4. It recharges in about 35 seconds, use often!

*Note, requires Mortar Strike unlock to be equipped in slot 3.
