The Gustav is supposed to be used against infantry. Gustav = infantry, AT-4 = armor, RPG = blend of both. Try to kill people with an SMG sometime. Then you'll see why everyone uses their rockets.

Ehhhh, I can't get in to the AT4. It just feels....Slow.

I'm pretty sure it isn't supposed to be used like a shotgun-noobtube combination.

Someone hiding behind a wall? CG. Someone 10 feet in front of you in the open? Uh... CG? With the ability to have 8 rockets and extra damage, it is more of a primary weapon than the SMGs are.

I really dislike the AT-4 myself, I can lead helicopters well enough to hit them as well as I can with the AT-4, but with less exposure to snipers and whatever else there is trying to kill me at the moment.

AT-4 is only for armor. Useless against infantry, has almost zero splash damage.

I find that the RPG-7 is close to useless against armour...half the time it registers like 4 hits but no dice :(

yes, yes, yes, Cg is for infantry we all know the die hards preach it......of course if anyone read any of the several posts stating the stats of the CG they would realize it's categorized for infantry AND armor. How is this magic possible u ask? well the warhead loaded in it for armor goes boom on contact with a surface, the infantry warhead explodes just before target sending little "projectiles" out to kill people and also has a minimum arm distance of 15M. If I remember correctly the warhead in BC2 is the one that goes boom on contact and will explode at your feet which is the armor warhead. It's pretty much like saying I can use the M16 to go pheasant hunting because the attachment I could possibly use for it is an under barrel shotgun attachment.....try that with your local law enforcement and let me know how that works out for you.

as far as killing people with the SMG.....it was the first and fastest kit I opened in the game......never had any problems dropping guys with an SMG......in fact I loved uzi with red dot and the no recoil perk......headshot city! The G3 and all the shotguns available really take the steam out of the SMG's don't work argument pretty easily as well since the G3 is an assault rifle that hits like a brick(love playing that gun, use it on all my kits) and the shotty slug combo's are 1-2 shot kills even across the map.

I agree with Venman, the CG is both a anti-infantry and anti armor weapon... it just depends on what ammo you use. But, since this game doesn't have this feature its seems EA and Dice made it both with the same ammo. I still think they should have a minimal arming distance of 15m so we wouldn't see suicide tactics and/or overuse/abuse of this weapon. The SMGs in this game are pretty good as well... i find them better then some of the assault weapons because they have: vary little kick back, and used in bursts can hit snipers half way across the map (yes i have done it before on the smaller maps, its harder on the bigger ones but it can be done). Also the silencer on these beasts make you a ninja, killing people without them knowing where the shots are coming. I also seem to get more Head shots with these little suckers as well then i do with assault (in till you get the later weapons that are deadly accurate). Over all the CG is both and there isn't much we can do... we just need to hope EA and Dice come up with a remedy with this CQC CG that we see from time to time. :)
"Anyone" can run in and get a few quick kills... but it takes a "Team" to get in and out alive.
A tank is more then just a weapon to a dedicated Tank Driver... its a friend that can not be replaced... and a coffin, for his/her corpse.

The SMGs are great, very nice weapons. Hopefully we'll have an arming distance for the CG soon and then some people might discover the wonders of the engi SMGs.

Yes, Venman, that's great stuff to know if you're playing Armed Assault. However, as a counterpoint to realism vs. game world reality, the different assault rifles don't fire different levels of damage in the real world. 7.62 is 7.62, 5.56 is 5.56. All sniper rifles are generally one-shot kills, even the semi-automatic ones. There are no motion sensor balls. There are no magic healing crates, defibrillator pads don't magically revive a person from mortal war wounds, etc, etc, etc. In terms of the game, the Gustav is the anti-infantry weapon. It does crap damage to armor.

You're seriously asking for the class to be given a nasty handicap by asking for a 15m arming distance. Anytime you catch an engineer in close-quarters with his Gustav out you'll win. No other class has that disadvantage, man. No, I don't have a vested interest in the class, I'm working my way up the assault tree and haven't touched the engineer class in days.

How about something, like... the splash damage does more damage to the engineer? Fire it at your feet and you go boom, too. Not sure how they'd work that out, but I'm no coder.

I guess I just don't see a point to the kit if your using CG against infantry and your using SMG against infantry......uh why play engy? and all you CG guys don't say to repair armor because you know damn well you don't get off on repairing stuff.

Why worry about it? What concern is it to you what other people choose to do with their time in game? Why make sweeping assertions against "all you CG guys?"

It's a legitimate anti-infantry weapon in the context of this game. It's also weak against armor, except for helicopters. Weaker than RPG-7, and far, far weaker than AT-4. My AT-4 will take down a tank in two hits to the rear, whereas it will take lord knows how many with the CG because I haven't been able to stay alive long enough to test it. It's a great weapon for engaging infantry, especially in urban situations where they are in and out of cover.

I use the CG against infantry and armor. It's dual purpose. It's great. That's why I use it. It's versatile.

I use my SMG against infantry at close range when I can't reload the CG, just like I use my pistol at close range against infantry when I don't have time to reload the SMG. At long range the CG is effective against infantry and armor. I'm happy to repair friendly tanks. It does the team well. I'm especially happy to repair my squadmate's tank because I like squad level teamwork. Like all of the other classes in the game, engy is versatile. That's why I play it.

I don't understand what the "riddle" is. Do you think that nothing can be dual purpose? Like, if I use my CG on infantry then something will prevent me from using it on armor? I don't get it.
