  • TS3 Public Team Channels Language usage.

Alright just some personal views from earlier today. [rant]

This is just a friendly reminder to everyone in the BC2 universe that Profane language is NOT allowed in public channels in our Teamspeak server. We do not allow this in chat nor on the forums so it is not to be used in TS3. I understand if people get excited every once in a while and let something slip, that is just natural, but earlier tonight I was experiencing a constant stream of unnecessary language in the channels by a large group of players, and I even counted a single person let loose with their colorful vocabulary 14 times in one round. This gets quite irritating after a while as hearing someone point out "That ----ing tank keeps getting in my way" is both unneeded and unwanted. We are a mature community and I hope that we can remember to remain this way even in the heat of the battle on TS. Let me say again that yes, the occasional word here or there is fine but this is getting to the point of being unacceptable. Might I remind you that you do not know who is on the other side of the speakers and many people who play the game have children who could be in the background or are younger in age themselves.

If I may remind you from the TS3 SOP in the announcements,

    The Rules:

Swearing. We don’t do it in game nor do we do it in the forum, so nothing changes here.

How did Rammstein get into this? But I like it!

But i also agree with MacLeod on this. Swearing constantly gets annoying on TS.

        rant
I have never had a problem with "foul language", as they are just words. I am of the opinion that words only hold power if you allow them to. I have also always been an opponent to the Nanny State mentality of "Think of the children!!1!!". I don't want the responsiblity of raising children, hence my decision to not make any children. Ultimately, I think, it is a parents/guardians responsibility to protect their children/charges from inappropriate language and, I think it is particularly naive to expect anonymous people on the internet to help raise someone elses children.

I know the following opinion (as well as the preceding opinions) will probably get me flamed but, if you don't want your children to hear people on the internet using foul language, perhaps you should wear a headset. Also, if you (as an adult) do not like or condone the use of foul language, why are you playing a M (mature) rated video game that cusses more than a drunken sailor on leave?

With that said, all of us using the TG TS server have agreed to the rule referenced by MacLeod and therefore, should refrain from using foul language. I believe that people who continually break the rule should have some form of administrative punishement applied to them.

For those that have opinions similar to mine, follow the rule out of repsect for the community that we belong to. I do and I hope you will too. Besides, it makes the Nanny-staters happy and keeps you from being warned/kicked/banned. :row__586:

You said all of what I wanted to say but a lot more tactfully than I'd have come off. I am a firm believer that if you are playing games online with players using voice chat, you should be using a headset if you have children. The game in itself swears more than anyone on teamspeak. It is not my issue if you have children in the background and frankly I don't care what they hear. Your children are not my responsibility.

However, we at TG, agree to abide by the rules. This is what sets us apart from other communities. We should take extra caution and do our best to not use foul language in public channels.

I personally do not have a problem with children in the room etc as I have none, but I have heard members before voice their complaints and last night was simply ridiculous. I personally do not have any issue against usual amounts of "foul language", but hearing people yelling holy ****ing god every other sentence can get annoying.

Call me crazy but I enjoy hearing stupid comments from Cheb and DrBeat saying cute stuff and everyone just being one big happy family. I do play for fun after all and it gets lonely on TS sometimes. I've never seen things get out of hand. Swearing is pointless though. No one cares if you just died or whatever. Well someone might if you give a tactically significant location to go with it.

                    Hey! My comments aren't stupid!

Though jokes aside, I've been trying to get better about TS etiquette. Mind you, most of my exclamations are theological in nature, not scatological or fornicational*.

Re: TS3 Public Team Channels Language usage.

Language isn't just because of children. It's about being professional and courteous to other players. While you may not mind it, TG set the standard to the lowest denominator for language and earns respect for being professional in their actions. Yeah it's ok every once in a while but like the original poster pointed out, this is about the excessive and needless use of bad language. It's also very annoying for someone to use a foul word every other word.

Thanks guys for posting your opinions on the matter it's always appreciated and a good reminder of where people stand and view rules at TG.

Swearing usually indicates a lack of self-control. I'm not a big fan of people like that.
