  • Weird FPS drops

I have some wierd FPS drops when playing BC2.
I'll be playing at 70-90 FPS then all of a sudden it drops down to below 20 and it does this all the time, it might be 30 sec or something between the drops.
I run everything on high and 2 AA, 1 Antistrophic filter and no Vsync or HBAO.
I have turned off bloom but it didnt help.

Anybody have a clue what it could be?

      Re: Weird FPS drops

If you are using Realtek onboard audio that could be the problem. Some people have reported there is a conflict between the Realtek audio and PunkBuster. I suggest getting a soundcard, installing it, and disabling the onboard audio to see if that solves the problem. You can get a cheapo soundcard at the store if you don't have one, no need to get a $100 card with 7.1.

Or it could be his video card overheating and slowing down as a self protective process.

I have had experiences in the past with sound causing this. I tweaked my settings and it made a huge difference.

I agree with the sound theory (no pun intended). I experience a similar experience with my laptop, if I use the speakers or analogue audio I get a lot of frame rate issues, if I use my usb headset works fine.

I know in BF2 I turned off EAX. I am trying to recall what I did in Bad Co 2.
