  • I found the culprit

So Skud was nice enough to provide me with the server IP address and it has allowed me to find the culprit behind my poor in game response time. It seems that one of the routers I am routed through, 173.192.18.197, po2.cer01.sr01.wdc01.networklayer.com gives me average responses of 300+ ms, some as high as 700. Is there anything I can do about this? I already called Verizon and they say it's not their server of course and can't do anything about it. Can I block this ip address or am I just at the mercy of randomness?

I don't know much about the topic, and I'm sure verizon is giving you some sort of run-around. ISP's tend to treat PC gamers like crap because we're bandwidth hogs and demand great service.

I think at the very least you should be asking for a lowered monthly fee. Threaten to take your business elsewhere...

Have you always used Verizon to play games through? I get those kind of pings, when/if I tried to play through my wireless modem device from Verizon(not a wireless modem that transmits from a local land line, but a modem/cell phone device that can be used anywhere I have cell service(nation wide)). I have tried to play online through it, but my pings were 4-800 and the magic 999 before losing connection to EA, no matter how close I am to a tower, meaning it was impossible to play. Their "3G network" advertising is mighty misleading, it feels like dial up compared to cable, but it works great for web and email.

Which is why I also have the more reliable and faster Comcast cable at home. (which I have to share with too many bandwidth hogs and reason for my random high pings and kicks).

So, if you are playing through a wireless device, I can see why your pings are that high, since you are essentially playing through a cell phone, right?? Otherwise you are sharing bandwidth with someone, and their porn is taking it all.

No I'm playing from my PC and I'm hard connected to my router. I'm not sure that the time in miliseconds to contact the server necessarily equates or is the same as ping, I'm not an expert on that. I think I'm going to call them again and ask them to reroute me, if they say then can't I'm going to ask them to cancel my service and I'll go back to comcast for my internet and see if that works.

For me the TG server is setting at 70 ms, but in game it starts off at 155 and climbs up over 200 during game. What are you seeing, Battle?

Wow... yeah, I would be making phone calls too, bummer.
