  • New Rig

Hey everyone, I am in serious need of a new rig. I currently have an XPS 400 Pentium D, 1 T HDD, some basic radeon card, 4 G of DDR 2 RAM. I just need something to play this game and it doesn't have to run at full specs. Even if it runs at only low smoothly thats fine, I just need it kind of cheap. Any suggestions? Thanks!

    Two questions:

    - what parts will you reuse? (monitor, windows, etc)
    - can you define cheap on your end - budget?

      Re: New Rig

I spent about $330 on the following:

      gigabyte motherboard
      Phenom II x3 720
      two gigs of ddr2 ram
      new powersupply BFG 550
      new SATA hard drive.

I'm reusing my current video card...an ancient 7950gt..it actually plays fine at 1440x900 with most settings on low.

I'll be upgrading the video card in a couple of months.

I can reuse my monitor windows, and case if it will fit everything. Well, $330 sounded rather nice i suppose it could go a little higher.

          Re: New Rig

I would advise upgrade motherboard + CPU + graphics card, and recycle the rest, including XP (if thats what you use)
THat is the cheaper way to good FPS on medium settings for BC2 (this is what I did and its way cheaper that a whole new dx11 machine)
to crunch things down cheaper, consider second hand on ebay, there are people who bought top end a year or two ago and selling it now to get top end again, you can pick up good kit from ebay if you spend the time monitoring and searching

Don't know where you are located Argetnar, but if you are close to a Microcenter I would recommend them highly..

            http://www.microcenter.com/

scroll down to the bottom of the page for great mothrboard/cpu deals on AMD stuff. But you have to actually go to the store for the deals. That's what I did.

            good luck,
