  • Dolphin Dive Kills FTW

Using Lightweight Pro, Sleight of Hand Pro, and Marathon Pro as my perks with a Spaz Shotgun. pretty much just dolphin dive to get kills and some of these are pretty sick. hope you enjoy it, also around the end the recorded vid in the game started to get laggy. i'm guessing it was due to the fact that i kept jumping around to find the kills and slow down the game footage and sped it back up had something to do with it. but it only happened on the last 3 kill streaks i got. Enjoy!!

      Re: Dolphin Dive Kills FTW

Back in the day anyone caught dolphin diving was warned/kicked/banned from TG servers as convnetional TG wisdom held this was a tactic that took advantage of the game engine rather than using invidual skill and tactics. We saw it in the same vein as bunnyhopping. As an old timer, and especially as a former COD2/COD4 and current ARMA admin I'm hoping a current member of the COD admin team takes this post by the horns.

      Vita. Read the Primer. Please.

        Re: Dolphin Dive Kills FTW

I have mixed feelings concerning this. Some points to consider:

        1. The move performed by Vita is not Dolphin Diving. It is the diving-for-cover move that is built into the game. Dolphin Diving, as I understand it, is repeatedly going prone then standing while moving forward.
        2. The diving-for-cover move is handicapped by not allowing a player to shoot during or for a short period after performing the move.
        3. Most people get killed by a diving-for-cover player because the move is unexpected. People simply need to be a bit quicker than before in order to counter this move. I generally pwn people trying that on me.
        4. Simulation/Realism title admins and players would of course have a problem with a twitch move that can be countered by a twitch move. (no offense intended)

With all that said, I find the tactic cheap but easy to counter, similar to drop-shooting (this is where a player drops to prone and begins shooting as soon as they encounter an enemy). Should it be against the rules? I don't know. Is it against the Primer? I would say 'No'. I do not see this as being something that 'takes advantage of the game engine rather than using individual skill and tactics'. Should people that use this tactic be ridiculed and belittled? I do all of the time. Same goes for those that use their nade launcher attachment as their primary weapon.

I'm not sure since I have not seen the server config files, but I think that most of the problems with the vanilla game can be fixed once we go unranked and can tweak the game into line with TG play.

Anyways, this is all just my opinion, take it for what it's worth.

not bunny hopping, when you dive to the ground you cant fire for a second or so, plus most of the kills as you can see they didnt notice me. my deaths were high during this video i made which means alot of people had the upper hand on me when i did do these dives. those were pretty much the only kills i got in the game. think my score was 24/20 in there. not the best ratio for prone diving.

People simply need to be a bit quicker than before in order to counter this move. I generally pwn people trying that on me.
notice how mindkill was none of my kills when i did this cause when ever i do it around him i get killed.

Unfortunately I remember this. I was at the losing end of most of your kills. Around 6 or seven I think. What was frustrating is that you're moving so dang fast when you're diving that I had extreme difficulty trying to scope you in, and I don't hip fire so, sucky for me. It seems like the shotty is perfect for that type of gameplay. I tried it a couple times but my Galil didn't seem to shoot as quick. I'm assuming it's because I'm not good at it though.

Yep..sadly this is a function of the game..if you were trying it on the CoD4 server you would be kicked. But in Block
Ops, it is simply a part of the game...I keep trying to go prone to plant the bomb, but I end up diving past the silly thing!!

I don't agree with that statement. Even in slow motion, you can see that the shots were being fired in less than a second of landing. What I'm seeing is someone who basically goes prone at turning every corner, and I can't see how this can be considered anything other than spamming, and can't imagine how this would fit within the parameters of the TG Primer.

                  3) Support game play in a near-simulation environment. Where the focus of play would not be solely on doing what it takes to win, but doing so utilizing real-world combat strategy and tactics rather than leveraging exploits provided to players by the design of the game engine.

                      Re: Dolphin Dive Kills FTW

It's an automatic feature. Basically, when your running, and you want to go prone, you'll automatically do a dive. Other COD titles, you just went prone instantly. Sometimes, its literally hard "not to do".

Something everyone should consider, before flaming Vita or tossing the Primer around: We are still in the vanilla stage of this game and have no real way to slow the game down at all. From what I have been reading, even once we go Unranked, we will not have much we can edit in the configs until the mod tools or a few patches come out. And, before any of you jump in my butt, I am not condoning spamming the duck for cover move. Instead, I am trying to protect a very useful, tactical move.

Another thing to consider is that this is not a combat simulation type game ala ArmA, GRAW, and OFP but, an arcade shooter. Trying to make CoD games into Simulation or even near simulation as the Primer directs, makes the game a big flaming pile of boring.

                          ^ THIS

I love the feature for diving behind cover.....saved me lots of times. I have tried it like in the video and 9 out of 10 times you die because of the inability to fire. You basically flop in front of your opponent unable to do anything besides take a bullet. I think it's a great feature of the game and the developer obviously knew people would use it to try and get kills so they were smart enough to implement the delay on being able to fire....bravo to vita for being able to get the kills he did using it.

                            Re: Dolphin Dive Kills FTW

Is it really a diving-for-cover move if there is no cover?

"Pretty much just dolphin dive to get kills", that made me wince a little when I read it.

Just as jumping only once to avoid fire is still a bunny hop, is diving once for the same purpose really any different?

From what I am seeing, the people that are having the biggest problem with the duck for cover move are people that I have not seen in game (and I am in game A LOT). Maybe you all have in game names that are different from your forum name? Or you play only public servers? Please play the game before passing summary judgement on this feature. Personally, I would much rather have actual players of the game helping to guide the administration in making rules and such, instead of people that have watched one video that was made for fun.
