  • Map progress..

    Just a few Caps to keep you guys up to speed with my progress..
    Keep in mind all these shots are of a map under development and are
    by no means final versions.

    Oh wow. That's awesome. (um, is it a good thing to be drooling?)

      damn, i dont like to judge a book by its cover, but if that map plays as well as it look... and like that room looks like it will play... and gets me around 60 fps then that may well become the best CS map EVER.
      keep the teasers coming as you finish stuff up... actually wait till about the 12-15th of July so i dont have to troll through the forums :)

      edit: I know u have an older vid card laying around unless its already on the way to scully, but if you have a spare PC to plop in a non top-of-the-line card that would help you see what some of our frame rates would be.

        I have a tendency to key out three or four things and then let them battle for supremacy while I key, so there's a lot of backspacing as potential statements are slaughtered and eaten by the victors. ~

              Damn that is making me want to get into mapping. I'm afraid to ask... hows the learning curve and are there good resources/tutorials?

              Please say high and no so I don't get into it.

                  It's quite simple. Not quite as simple as UT was, but simple. Entry level, you just draw a bunch of boxes, stick player doods in it and some magic yellow cubes for buy/blast zones, and you're ready to rock.

                  Now, quality mapping -- mapping that won't directly result in my cursing you out publicly -- takes a bit more effort. But not much. 90% of the map problems I find are due to mapper forgetfulness or incomplete testing, rather than just being boneheaded.

                  Remember, it's simple enough for me to do it, and I'm such a buffoon I fire Famas and miss sometimes. Not just sometimes, but so frequently I have to blame Vulcan or Section 8 or Zerox or Ednos for it. And aside from Section 8 and Zerox, they don't even have hax0rz in my box0rz.

                    It depends on how well you get the hang of modeling and how many tutorials you're willing to read through. Highly Flammable just started mapping recently, so if you want to see a beginner's work along with a description of the difficulties involved, I'm sure he'll be able to accommodate.

                      Ah.. grasshopper.. The hardest thing about mapping is getting started, all I can say is open up hammer and experiment with things go thru the tutorials and practice with the concepts and once you have the basics down, start a map.

                        I can assure you This map will be optimized. I am getting 290 to 300 fps. I am sure once I light it, The fps will be nominal for lower end machines.
