  • Server upgrade?

I'm not a paying member but I'm thinking seriously about it, but one thing that I would like to see would be more ppl allowed on the server like 20 Is there anyway that would happen. I understand that it cost money to run the server but what would it take?

    Re: Server upgrade?

Performance issues aside, I don't think that we want a 20 man server here. There comes a point where too many players on a map really causes a breakdown in teamwork. I think where we're at is just about ideal.

    My opinion only.

    3) Support game play in a near-simulation environment. Where the focus of play would not be solely on doing what it takes to win, but doing so utilizing real-world combat strategy and tactics rather than leveraging exploits provided to players by the design of the game engine.

If you are a paying member, you never have to worry about getting into the server :)

I don't like playing on servers with more that 16 people.... I think 16 people is the max that can effectively play most maps before it turns into a deathmatch.

Members get slot reservation at present, so unless the 14 people on the server are all members too, any TG supporter should be able to get in.

I'll also second Tempus's point that too many cooks spoil the soup when it comes to most online games, CS included. Coordinating the action of 10-12 people on a team becomes burdensome in a hurry, and you're almost certain to have a couple people on each team that don't understand the atmosphere we're striving for here at TG.

            Re: Server upgrade?

I enjoy the relatively low player count.
I could see upping the number from 14 to 16 or even 18 though.

I've mentioned before, and received no reply, about the possibility of another server...
Our little group alone has brought an additional 8 or more people to the TG server. It has become our favorite. On the occasions, like a couple nights ago, where a bunch of us are on it's nearly impossible to get us all in. We had two refreshing and hoping for spots. Two of us decided to take a break and told those waiting to "try now!" hoping they could snag our evacuated slots.

Well, the problem is that game servers aren't free... It costs money for the hardware and money for the bandwidth. TG is being hosted on a very good connection, too, so that puts the bandwidth at a premium.

Bottom line, I think, is that until we get a significant number of new paying members, I don't think we're going to be able to afford a second server.

                Re: Server upgrade?

I remember in the old days (~early 2001), idling for half an hour just to get a coveted slot to hog for the night, we were all paying members then and there was only one game.

I'd highly recommend the "Supporting Member" status for $9 per month. If it gets any busier then it will be impossible to play here without it.

Ok, I did the math and decided to pry the dough out of my extremely tight fist.
I sent Wyzcrak a PM... just got a reply.

                    C-ya in the server soon.
