Ive been toying with the idea of jumping on our CS server for a game or two, but from reading your posts here Im fearing you guys coming down harshly. Hey, Im all in for teamwork, but Im more into having F-U-N with my community. Im not to sure what you people deem as "rushers", and thus being labled one is obviously a horendous banable offense to you. I dont consider myself a frag counter (I play NS, I think that says it all), but again I just see alot of complaining here. Should I even bother with this aspect of TG, or is it not as bad as it sounds?

    Re: Thoughts

I guess that's all up to your personal preferance. TG are the only servers I play on and love the rules. The rounds can be much slower paced, but you have a chance to think about what you want to do. I think you would probably enjoy it (esp on the offensive team) but defensive play may get to you. Try it out and see what you think.

And a "rusher" would be someone on the defensive team not playing defense. Instead of guarding bomb sites/hostages, they go out looking for kills.

PCS plays much more slowly than NS, but it can be rewarding if your expectations are reasonable.

Like NS, and GR, and JO... if you're focused on teamwork and objectives, you'll do fine playing CS at TG.

I like to play PCS when I need a mental break but still want to play. To play NS really well, so many things must be taken into consideration. PCS has fewer variables which are more easily determined and has such a relatively high turnover rate (the rounds are only 7 minutes, if that) that there is comparitively little consequence for mistakes. As your team make mistakes, you're only minutes away from the beginnings of improving on them.

CS, even PCS, caters to frag monkeys moreso than NS, but the regulars on the server definately appreciate that the team and objective come first.

meh... nothing anyone says here is likely to matter much. You just have to go play. There are no map boundaries and yet an admin will still call you out if you're "out of bounds." It's all subjective, unfortunately, so do what you can to earn the trust of the regulars and admins on the server. If they trust you're working with your team toward the objective, you'll enjoy less scrutiny.

Darkilla: In short, NS is pretty much really fast chess. With guns. Apophis: I haven't seen anyone say that SM's are better than non-SMs. Nordbomber: This is THE first server I've seen where either side can comeback from out of seemingly nowhere with the right teamwork. en4rcment: I have NEVER experienced the type of gameplay that I have found here. Nightly I am amazed at the personalities and gaming talent. Zephyr: Apophis is clearly a highly sophisticated self-aware AI construct that runs on a highly modified toaster oven in Wyzcrak's basement.

          Re: Thoughts

My personal take on it is that the bark here is much worse than the bite on the server. Online, most of the admins are very easy-going and willing to give people lots of chances. I think that once the admins and regs get sufficiently frustrated with the playerbase on the servers, rather than blow up and hand out bans/pens they'd later regret, they come here and post. I know that's how I try to handle myself...

It also depends quite a bit what time of night you get on to play. Most of the time earlier in the evening, the play is very serious with the CSS regs filling the servers. Later on (and especially right after the last big NS game), one of the servers can be filled with the usual gang of NS idiots (I'm looking at you tbear), and hilarity ensues. It only gets ugly when one of the CSS admins is on, and is trying to keep the game serious while tbear is trying to find somebody to play 'catch the flash grenade' with. And by ugly I mean awesome. But I imagine it's frustrating for the admin in question.

Anyhow, you should definitely come check it out - just be prepared for some of the players to be taking the game more seriously than you might like to.

Yeah, jump in, the water's fine! Just remember a few guidelines: ;) ;) ;)

            Think like a Terrorist/Counter-Terrorist

Work your objective as appropriate - guard the hostages, bomb the target, guard the target, rescue the hostages....cover your teammates - escort the bomber, protect the defuser, bring up the rear or take point for a hostie rescue.

And fer pete's sake, have some _style_ - leaping around like a ballerina packin' some big ol' sissy's gun makes ya look, well...you know. ;)

A clever ambush will garner applause, not "camper" whines.

            Don't whine about getting ambushed.

And remember: real men TMP/MAC. :)

Once you discover how to play PCS in this game, it's wonderful. It's very hard to learn that though because of it's realistic nature. If you haven't played the source version your going to wowed by alot and you will have to be more focused on the enemy than the awesome scenery lol

                  Re: Thoughts

Squeak... glad to see you found our site. I hope that you do go check out our server. If you're worried about being a rusher, don't fret. Just look for your teammates with the |TG| tag. Shadow them for a bit and see how far they move forward to setup defenses. And don't hesitate to ask. Most people on the server will gladly tell you.

As far as boundaries, remember your objective and coordinate your efforst with your team. If you're working towards your objective then there shouldn't be a problem.

What you need to watch out for is running as far as you can just to engage the enemy and start shooting. If you run headstrong on your own to try and take on five opponents, well that's not the PCS style. But from reading your post, that's not who you are or what you're looking for. You should fit it just fine with us.

                    This is accurate and reliable.

Also accurate and reliable, unfortunately, is that a few among the crowd (any crowd of humans) will be quick to bark when you do something wrong, sometimes not even offering a solution in the barking.

Unless and until those barking grows in number and unison, take it with a grain of salt. The bright side of everything being subjective is that, short of admin intervention, that barker's opinion is just that... an opinion. You'll learn in time whose opinion matters and whose doesn't.

Indeed. I complain a lot about a lack of rules, and how concrete rules could only make this place better, but the truth is that it's not a horrible place to start with. :)
