  • Wallbanging...

It's an advanced CS tactic, it's used in some other games, but I primarily see it as a CS tactic.
Whilst I'm new here I've been fighting the urge to do it, there's been several occasions now when I know an enemy is on the other side of the wall from me either taking fire from team mates or guarding an objective, and I know the angle to hit the person through the wall, examples have varied from large to small, defending on DE Dust2 covering a team mate whilst he defuses two opponents one behind the boxes on the right as you face short-a whilst standing on the bomb point, and the other actually down towards short-a on the left.
One of my opponents ducked out (we didn't know he'd been behind those boxes until he did) took a potshot or two and killed my team mate whilst taking a couple hits from me.
I killed him through the boxes immediately and then went on to attempt to defuse (got killed by the guy in short-a but I didn't really have a choice at the time other than to try to fake a defuse but if the T had been slow coming to find me the bomb would've gone off anyway).

The guy I killed didn't complain or anything, but the fact of the matter is I killed him through about two feet worth of crate.
Whilst this isn't a 'bad' wallbang since I had a visual on the opponent, knew he was there, knew he was pinned, and neutralised him.
There are wallbangs on the same map - from long a double doors you can kill someone on the right through the wall if you know they're there.

Is there a precedent? because I haven't been able to find anything on the forums yet.

    Re: Wallbanging...

In the past, the guideline was that if you KNEW that they were there because you had seen/heard them that round, that shooting through walls was not unrealistic. Counter Terrorists are certainly trained to shoot through walls, boxes and other sources of concealment (as opposed to cover).

Running around shooting crates and walls just because there's usually someone hiding there was NOT allowed.

Hopefully, all the maps nowadays are well designed and don't have brick walls that you can shoot through, or drywall/plasterboard walls that you can't shoot through. I don't think that it's practical to regulate map design flaws though, other than through the honor system. PCS players aren't going to intentionally try to shoot through a brick wall, anyway.

Sadly, you can still shoot through such walls.
Almost all of the outrageous wallbangs that were possible in the past are still possible on source (though a little harder to pull off because realistically if you want to kill someone through a thick wall in source it needs to be a headshot, or two).

And, sadly I don't know penetration values for all the weapons we use compared to surfaces, so generally I guess I'll just stick to nuke style walls(1-1.5y thick), doors and crates.

I was never one to subscribe to randomly firing through wallbang areas just because there's often people there, and I don't think it would work as easily on PCS anyway since camping positions and PCS objective positions don't always overlap :P

But yea, I'll try to moderate myself, some habits are hard to break.
Crackjumping I had to rebind my spacebar key for a few hours which completely butchered my play style LOL, anyway - I still dive for cover when I'm not immediately returning fire.

It's not a game engine problem, it's a map design problem. Crates and plasterboard walls can be made to have a certain penetration, while brick walls can be made to be impenetrable. It's all up to the map designer.

I'd just like to say that I'm glad to see someone asking about these tactics before getting into trouble with them and causing arguments about them with admin's on the server.

You seem to have a good attitude towards the style of play on our server, thanks for that.

Now when you say walling some people might think wallhacking because thats how people have said it.

I always thought it fell under "Blind Fire".

but bind fire wouldn't be "blind" if you knew the person was there.

I like wallbanging. It sounds a lot more pornographic than walling or blind firing.

                          Owww...my side :D.

If it's used in real life and can be replicated in the game engine (as penetration is), then using it shouldn't be a problem. The problems come when map designers don't appropriatly apply the right penetration and you end up being able to shoot through walls (as in cs_harvest). If it can be looked at as a known exploit, don't use it, but many maps are made right where this is a viable tactic.

if someone is wallhacking, people say something like this "Wow nice walls nub" but if you're are shooting legit through a wall its just walling
