  • Getting Ready For Battlefield 3: Armored Kill

Getting Ready For Battlefield 3: Armored Kill

June brought us the second Expansion Pack of Battlefield 3: Close Quarters where the focus is on fast paced infantry combat with tight tactical squad play. With smaller spaces and a vertical layout, Close Quarters offered fast-moving up close and personal tactical teamwork. But the next Expansion Pack for Battlefield 3 promises something very different.

Armored Kill, the 3rd Expansion Pack for Battlefield 3 is bringing large battlefields for an all-out vehicle assault. Armored Kill features several new vehicles such as tanks, mobile artillery, tank destroyers, ATVs and an AC-130 gunship. It also includes the biggest map in Battlefield history as well as a new game mode: Tank Superiority. ...

ArmA2 Players Dying for ArmA3 Get Dug Up By DayZ

What an explosive couple of weeks weíve had on our vanilla ALPHA server that runs ArmA2 Combined Operations. Weíve been running Domination switching to custom missions to bring in new blood & itís been populated 24 hours a day since then & very often full at 30 players. We are getting a lot of players who are wondering about this ArmA game they bought in order to access DayZ. We've been hearing they have really enjoyed the multiplayer experience of this mil-sim game....

TG Interview with ZanMgt of Blockade Runner

ZanMgt (officially pronounced "Zan Management") is the "Six Sibling Studio" comprised of the Harris siblings in the order they were born: Zack, Aaron, Nathaniel, Micah, Gabriel and Terah. Blockade Runner is their latest title, the "multiplayer first person space adventure gameĒ. Influenced by the success of Infiniminer and Minecraft, Blockade Runner aims to provide fully destructible 'living' starships in a procedurally generated space environment.

With the recent release of a new demo of Blockade Runner, I was able to sit down with some of the developers to discuss their studio and latest project on behalf of Tactical Gamer....

  • Everything You Need To Know About Planetside 2

Everything You Need To Know About Planetside 2

With Planetside 2 currently in the tech test phase, and the Beta release creeping closer and closer, we seek to answer many of the questions we frequently hear on the forums as well as give an overview on the factions and their reasons for being involved in the conflict. Also included is some media, some gameplay mechanics, and some attempts at unbiased faction lore! Just what is Planetside 2? Will it be for TG? Will it suit YOU? Read on to find out why I think Planetside 2 is the best game to fit the TG players playstyle in the last few years..... Yeah, and did I mention it was free?

What IS Planetside 2? Planetside 2 is a free to play, persistent, day/night cycling, multi continent, command structured, massively multi-player online first person shooter. Now, just what the heck does that mean? Well, it sure does NOT mean a button bashing, save-the-epic-sword-of-victory-that-will-slay-the-ancient-evil teddybear. No, what MMO in this case means is a MASSIVE online FPS. Think a 64km squared continent, then think 3 of those. With more to be added after launch. THEN think 2000 players per continent. Think persistent, like DayZ, just because YOU log out does not mean anything changes, the fight still rages on 24 hours a day. And speakling of 24 hours, t...

    Tactical Gamer Talks With Wargaming.net

In recent weeks Arthur Pratapopau, Wargaming.net's PR Manager, has given us the chance to talk to the Devs of one of TG's more popular titles: World of Tanks. What follows is, we hope, an exchange of questions and answers of an atypical type. Wargaming.net's websites have amazingly in depth FAQ's covering every aspect of their games, so we tried to come up with some questions that were a bit different. Taking some of their valuable time from the development of their upcoming title World of Warplanes, Andrei Yarantsau and Aleksandr Zezulin field some unique questions from our Tactical Gamer player base....

  • Planetside 2 Overview

    Planetside 2 Overview

In 2003 Sony Online Entertainment released Planetside. Designed as the first MMOFPS, Planetside allowed hundreds of players to fight in combined arms battles across massive maps. While innovative Planetside never found wide spread success among the FPS community. Fast forward to today and SOE is at it again with the second release Planetside 2. With updated graphics and modern day FPS features SOE is hoping to get it right this time and be the biggest thing to hit the FPS market in a long time. For those of you uninitiated I'm going to give an overview of what is known about PS2 and what you can expect from the game. Bear in mind that this is current information and all things will be subject to change before final release....

  • GamePlan: Real-Time Strategy Planning For FPS, RTS and MMO Gamers

GamePlan: Real-Time Strategy Planning For FPS, RTS and MMO Gamers

Tactical Gamer has always taken pride in our organization, our tactics and our strategy. In the past, this has required lengthy planning sessions that took place over many days or weeks because we didn't have any tools that would allow us to collaborate visually on strategy in real time. Ladies and Gentlemen, I'm here to tell you that those days are over thanks to a groundbreaking new mobile application: GamePlan.

GamePlan is a mobile application that works with all Android and iOS devices, both mobile phone and tablet sized. You simply download and install the application, download your maps, link up with your fellow tacticians and away you go. It is cross-platform compatable, so you dont have to worry about whether or not the guys you're planning with are apple or android loyal....

  • Red Orchestra 2: Free Weekend on Steam and GotY Edition

Red Orchestra 2: Free Weekend on Steam and GotY Edition

Greetings fellow Tactical Gamers, I bring to you news from Stalingrad!

The team at Tripwire Interactive (TWI) have been busy squashing bugs, tweaking the gameplay and UI, and developing new content since the less-than-stellar launch of RO2, back in the fall of 2011. They've even gone back to their MOD team roots and have a long running open beta, allowing owners of the game to test everything that was being tweaked. From ballistics and client side hit detection, to Tank AI and the new, free map: Mamayev Kurgan. Which, by the way, features both close quarters combat and long range engagements.

Now, the work is done and the testing is complete. On May 22nd [TW]Wilsonam announced that all current owners of RO2 will be getting a free content pack: The RO2 GotY Edition. Since the TWI team has worked so hard on making things "right" with RO2 and it's dedicated fans, I won't steal their thunder by copy/pasting their announcement (which can be found here, instead, I give you the RO2 GOTY Free Content Update Dev Diary video, where the members of Tripwire Interactive tell us about the changes that have been made....

  • DayZ Introduction

    DayZ Introduction

Zombies versus Survivors, itís all the rage right now. But what happens when you take the zombie/survivor idea and cross it with the capability of a top notch first person shooter engine like ArmA 2? You end up with something that smacks of Left 4 Dead, but set in some obscure place like Kazakhstan. You get something that has cool guns like Killing Floor, except thereís nowhere to buy ammunition. You end up with the DayZ mod.

DayZ is set in a region of Chernarus, a primarily Russian speaking area. That means all the maps, street signs and directions are in Russian. Donít worry, itís not that big of a deal. The idea is that the general population has been infected and become zombies (or zeds as some refer to them). You are one of the lucky survivors, and you start out at a random starting point with a handgun with some ammunition, a backpack, a water canteen, one or two items of food and some very basic medical supplies. What you do NOT have is a compass, a watch, a map, a flashlight, any other high end goodies such as night vision goggles or a GPS. That doesnít mean they arenít out there, you just have to find themÖ without being eaten....
