    Re: Irresponsible media

To me, the main stream media is becoming more and more like a tabloid. It's getting into sensationalism and politics, instead of keeping independant and reporting the facts.

Here is another editorial that talks about the problems with the media.

Wrong question. The question should be, what is the difference between the guns available last week and the guns that are available now that the ban is over. The answer can be found here: http://www.onlinetoday.com/users/kolya/

The differences between guns that were legal last week and that were banned last week are, for all practical purposes, cosmetic only. The ban was about guns that looked mean and evil. It did nothing to restrict the lethality of any firearm at all...

    Re: Irresponsible media

With regard to the resonsible media, they ARE responsible...to their shareholders. MSM news these days is about targeting a market and spoonfeeding it what it wants to hear. CNN's audience wants to hear that mean old Bush has lied to America and unleashed waves of NRA nuts armed with fully automatic assault rifles to shoot up schools. Fox's audience wants to believe that the law was totally useless: another example of Clinton's all talk/no walk approach to the Presidency and the Democrats preference for what feels good over what works.

Meanwhile somebody up the foodchain is responsible for the margin.

The real news is on the internet now. The bloggers in their pjs keep it real.

I don't care what the differences between the two subsets of weapons are. We can argue the usefulness of the ban some other time.

I just want to know what it now takes to buy a weapon that was up until two days ago completely ILLEGAL to buy. If you have the answer, pray, give them to me, for I am slow of study.

    Re: Irresponsible media

In TX, I need a valid drivers license, no felony conviction, never been ruled mentally unable to stand trial, no dishonorable discharge from a service branch, and no domestic violence conviction. So clean criminal record check and a driver's license (or state ID for the non-driving crowd).

It depends on your state and locality. In some states (CA, MA, NY, CT for example) there's still a ban on "assault weapons". In most states, the requirement to purchase an "assault" weapon is the same as to purchase any other rifle.

The law would have been more clear had it been called the "Anti flash-suppressor and bayonett lug Bill". Today you can buy an AR15 (M16) without those features, tomorrow you can buy it with those features. Same bullet. Same semi-auto rate of fire.
