This doesn't concern me as I only bought HL2 for the future mods anyway.

For the most part, I'm in the same boat. But HL2 is the first single-player game that I've been looking forward to since Warcraft II came out... (That was the game that got me addicted to playing against human opponents.)

I wish I could get more excited about playing a game AGAINST a machine instead of playing a game VIA a machine.

I own two very nice console gaming systems with several gaming titles each, and I don't ever play any of them unless there are other humans there with whom to share the experience.

Sometimes I wish I could be more satisfied with/by AI.

I feel the same way. I just like to play through it once to experience the story. The original HL had a great story and Blizzard's games have great stories. I don't think of them as just a game, but more like an interactive story that I can really immerse myself in... It's much different from playing against people and not nearly as satisfying when you consider just the gameplay.

But I'm, like you, usually let down by AI.

Ah yes, considering it from that angle, I concur.

I too enjoy a good story.

Re: HL2 is out in stores, but not via STEAM!

I read somewhere that although HL2 is physically in stores right now, it's not playable yet if you install it. I believe that it has to be activated through Steam or something when the download version is activated too.

But this is just heresay. I'm not getting it in either form so I haven't really payed attention to all the news.

That sucks ... is it the one of those empty boxes things or is there actually stuff inside? I bought the Steam / HL2 downloadable pack off their website a couple weeks ago -- would stink if I had to wait longer than others.

I run my $#@! new school style with old school roots...

I believe it's a full box. You can install it, but need an activation code from Valve.

Again... check with more official sources. This is only what I read on a bit of news snippet at Penny Arcade.

Re: HL2 is out in stores, but not via STEAM!

Early retail buyers are in the same boat as us Steam preloaders now: sitting around with a fully functional copy of HL2, and not able to play it until Valve unlocks the game It seems that the game's store release is becoming increasingly widespread though. I'm not getting my hopes up, but it's always possible that Vivendi will let them unlock it tomorrow if they decide enough stores have put it on the shelves. Probably not though, I'm sure they couldn't care less how soon we get our fix.

Vivendi isnt allowing steam to allow users to play HL2 because it "would brech a contract" and they "will sue them out of existence"

Oh well... I can easily wait for wed... i have waited almost since i beat HL1 to play this game :P
