    Yeah I saw that.

Do you think they have a chance of suing this poor kid? Hell, his domain name is about 2/3 of his actual name. Are they going to claim copyright infringement on anyone that has a name that sounds like microsoft? :P

It's called a derivitive produce in name.

And yes, he would win absolutely. Problem is, he wouldn't be able to afford the fight. And there's no way to engage them to cover his attorney fees.

I bet however that some attorney looking for recognition would take on his case probono (free) to make a point. If Rowe was clever too, he actually could have made some money -- if he put up content and established the site for his web design business.

Seems like a good arrangement. Microsoft had the law on their side. The 17-year old had PR on his.

I would never have found out about www.mikerowesoft.com if Microsoft had never sued him.

Well looks like it is all over now. But who won?

Mike Rowe, a 17-year-old resident of Victoria, British Columbia, has agreed to pick a new name for his Web site, currently called www.mikerowesoft.com, said Microsoft spokesman Jim Desler.
From this statement you would think microsoft won it

Desler said Microsoft would cover Mike's costs of changing to a new Web site and redirecting traffic from the old site. Microsoft also had agreed to help the teen get Microsoft certification training and other gifts, including an Xbox game console, he said, and has invited Mike to a technology festival in March at the corporation's headquarters in suburban Redmond.
but this sounds like the kid made out like a champ.
